Term 6

Who we are

The choices we make may have consequences on who we are and who we become.

This term, we will conduct an inquiry into:

  • How to manage a change in our lives

  • How to build strong, positive relationships

Our three key concepts for this term's inquiry will be change, responsibility and perspective.

We kicked off term six with a Samba Drumming lesson!

We were able to use a variety of drums and worked together to produce and amazing sound.

As you can imagine, it was incredibly loud!

Fundraising!

Abi will be fundraising for a charity set up by her aunt and uncle, called Be More Ben.

In 2017, Abi's cousin Ben was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour; he sadly lost his battle in November of that year at the age of 8.

Abi has set herself the challenge of cycling 162 miles from 16th June to 16th July, to raise money for Be More Ben. You can read about why she chose this challenge on her just giving page, where you can also donate to her cause.

Good luck Abi - this is a fantastic thing to do! It really shows how responsible you are being. Well done!

This week, we decided to learn more about the concept of change. The children were challenged to create a piece of work that linked to this concept.

There were a huge variety of projects; some people looked at the changes between primary and secondary school. Work was presented as artwork and as information posters. It is clear to see that the children have a great understanding of the concept of change.

Laura and Pyari created a flipbook that explained the change in racial equality over time. Through very few words, they clearly illustrated how this has changed over the past 200 years. Here are some photos of their work.

On Friday 25th June, Year 6 had their forest school sessions with Donna. They created swings, rope bridges, miniature figures and momentos of their time at Hartley Primary. They had to be responsible when working in the forest, and respect the environment for children who come to the school in the future. Year 6 also had a good discussion about how they have changed throughout their time at HPA, and reflected on how they have grown since their first forest school sessions in reception. They also enjoyed some lovely hot chocolate and smores!

On Tuesday 29th June, Year 6 were lucky to take part in a rugby lesson which was run by two rugby coaches. They worked on their communication skills and worked as a team to develop tactics in order to tag as many opponents and take the ball. They had great fun!

Year 6 have been reflecting on the changes they have experienced throughout their time at HPA. We have had lots of fantastic discussions about memories throughout their time at school, and the children have worked hard to create collages that represent their time here. These will be added to their leavers' books, which they have been working hard on this term.

On Thursday, Year 6 were given the task to create to create a piece of artwork or sculpture to represent their time at HPA. There were some fantastic creations - have a look!

Well here we are! It's the end of the year and it's fair to say that Year 6 have had an amazing time. Not only have they had fun at Chessington, Lullingstone and the school sleepover, but they have also behaved amazingly well and remained the kind, caring and considerate year group that they have been for the past seven years.

Here are some photos from Year 6's last full week at school.
