Welcome to Year 4!
Our lines of Inquiry are:
Different types of weather (Form)
How technology is used to track weather (Function)
How decisions can be influenced by the weather (Connection)
As part of our provocation we explored what was meant by the words weather and climate. We considered all the different weathert types we knew and discussed which ones would be considered extreme.
As part of our work we then created short diary entries or news reports, recapping on the the fictional event of an extreme weather hitting Hartley. We had agency over our work outcomes and whether we worked individually, with a partner or as part of a small group.
PSHE - Friendship Workshop
On Wednesday 25th February, we were joined by members of the Kent Emotional Wellbeing Team who led a workshop on friendships. We covered a range of topics through games and discussions but importantly how it's ok to be friends and have different opinions. We ended the session with some relaxation and breathing techniques.
Art - Hokusai
Our focus for this module is on the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai whose work dates back the late 18th century.
His woodblock print series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji includes the iconic print The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Hokusai was instrumental in developing ukiyo-e from a style of portraiture largely focused on courtesans and actors into a much broader style of art that focused on landscapes, plants, and animals.
The work of Hokusai had a significant influence on Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet during the wave of Japonisme that spread across Europe in the late 19th century.
