Welcome to Year 4!
Our lines of inquiry are:
Children’s rights and responsibilities in the community (Form)
Equality and inequality of children’s rights (Perspective)
Roles and choices for responsible behaviour (Responsibility)
We looked at the use of mosaics in Ancient Rome. We attempted to create our floor tiles.
We had to plan our mosaic by sticking to the baseboard board before sticking down permanently with grouting. This all got very messy.
Odd Sock Day
We have looked at how people make assumptions about people based on what they look like and how they behave.
We have considered how we shouldn't assume things about people based on stereotypes.
Our work helped us to make connections to our work on the Romans and their use of mosaics.
Although not with stones and pebbles we did attempt to make patterns.
We were lucky to be visited by a local archeologist named Gerald who taught us about the impact of the Romans in our local area.
We looked at different tiles and how they would have been used on Roman houses.
We made links to Lullingstone and how we can learn from the ruins found there.
We looked at pottery and the designs on them.
We made connections with our History and DT studies when making our aqueducts. We considered why the aqueducts were designed by the Romans and the impact they had on the lives of people living during this time.
We designed, made and tested our aqueducts.
We investigated the effects of different liquids on eggs. We made observations over 7 days.
We made predictions about what would happen to both the egg and the shell. Picture - day 2
We investigated the effects of different liquids on eggs. We made observations over 7 days.
We were surprised how the squash had changed the egg shell an that the coke had changed the colour of the egg.
As part of our work on the digestive system we created our own poo.
We pretended that the plastic bag was our stomach. We added bananas, crackers, water and orange juice. - Frank D
The food was broken down into small chunks like it would in our stomach. It continued in our digestive system to the small intestine (tights). - Kaitlyn
All of the nutrients (water and orange juice) were squeezed out of our small intestine (tights) onto the tray (blood.) - Draychen
Anything that was left was then our poo. Which comes from our large intestine, rectum and anus. - Kaavya
As part of our studies on the digestive system we have also been looking at the teeth. One of our parents came in to talk to use about her job as a dentist.
We wrote about the digestive system to help explain each step.
We had agency over how we presented our work.
2-2-2 rule for healthy teeth
