How we express ourselves
Welcome to Year 4!
How we express ourselves
In this module we will be following different lines of inquiry, to help us to find out about how “Creativity can sometimes help to convey uniqueness. ”
Our lines of inquiry include:
What creativity is (Form)
Ways creativity can be expressed (Function)
Changes in design over time (Change)
Writing: Setting and Character descriptions
In SPAG lessons, we explored upleveling our vocabulary to help us when writing expanded noun phrases.
Using the skills we looked at when writing a setting description, we then applied these when describing the character of Matilda from our class text.
Writing: Biography
As part of our lines of inquiry around change we looked at the invention of the telephone and specifically the work of Alexander Graham-Bell. We spent time researching his inventions and the impact that this had on the world then and continues to have today. We used developments technologically to make links to improvements in communication today.
Writing: Narrative
We wrote narratives based on a short film. We included setting and character descriptions and used expanded noun phrases, things we had practiced this module.
Science: Electricity
DT: Moving vehicles
Before beginning to design and make our vehicles, we looked at how cars have changed over time and the reasons why they have changed. We looked at safety features along with changes to design and engineering elements.
Agency
We had agency over our research. We choose what we wanted to research and how we would present our findings.
History: When in Rome...
PE:
Art: Jackson Pollock
We have been learning about the life and work of abstract artist, Jackson Pollock.
We learned that he was not always a happy man, and as a result chose to use darker colours to reflect how he was feeling.
During our provocation sessions, we were inspired to make some pieces of art using his famous 'drip painting' technique with string and pegs! Have a look at what we created!

Whole school event - Arty Party
Children from across the school took part in an art activity. Use this link to see some of the pictures from our time with the artists.
The art work was based on the book The Invisible by Tom Percival.
