Vincent Van Gogh -''I put my heart and my soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process.''

Through virtual reaity we are now able to visit galleries and view the work of our most favorite artists without leaving the comfort of our home. Although nothing is quite like seeing a masterpiece in the 'flesh'. This short video gives the viewer a sense of what it would be like to actually step into the paintings of the master, Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh's vivid and distinct brushstrokes are brought to life and really give a sense of the artists state of mind when creating this art and also the atmosphere he was trying to convey.

This film gives a real insight into the life of Van Gogh as an artist and the struggles he endured throughout his life tormented by mental illness. After seeing this film I really began to understand the artist and the reasoning behind his work, his passion and the unfortunate events which occurred throuhgout his life and that inflenced his work.

Actvitity - Creating Van Goghs Starry Night using his intense,dense brushstrokes. Impasto painting.

Firstly watch the video on how to apply the paint using vivid colours to replicate the imapsto work.

-Place a base colour down on the paper and then continue to make an initial sketch of the layout (composition) of the drawing.

-Progress by adding the paint using short dashs and lines adding more overlays of colours as the painting develops.

-Continue until you have a full finished artwork.

The Starry Night is an oil on canvas by Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Painted in June 1889, it describes the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an ideal village.

We can learn a lot from previous art masters and how the different art movements have influenced the art we see today. Art methodolgy trancends into todays teaching of art.
