Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to determine the percent acetic acid in a sample of vinegar by use of an acid-base titration.
Hypothesis: If a sample of vinegar reacts with sodium hydroxide, then the mass of acetic acid present can be determined by the method of titration.
Variables
Independent: Mass of vinegar
Dependent: Volume of base used
Control: Accepted Percentage acetic acid in vinegar
Materials: Â buret, balance, graduated cylinder, magnetic stirrer, acid and base solutions, indicator, funnel, DI water, erlenmeyer flask, ring stand, buret clamps
Safety: See Lab handout
Procedure: See Lab handout
Background Information: See Lab handout
