HVAC Information
As the Santa Clarita community experiences periods of extreme heat each summer and fall, we understand the importance of ensuring the comfort and safety of our students and staff. The Hart District is actively working to fortify our HVAC infrastructure to handle these extended heat waves and provide a comfortable learning environment for all.
We are committed to keeping our school sites adequately air-conditioned and prepared for the challenges posed by the soaring temperatures. However, it's essential to be aware that even with our best efforts, the prolonged heat waves may exert stress on our HVAC systems, resulting in temporary failures in some instances.
The information below summarizes our recent work to prepare for the stresses of prolonged heat waves. Should you encounter a problem with your HVAC, please follow the guidelines below:
The William S. Hart UHSD has been proactive in modernization efforts to our existing schools. Since 2016, the District has been using Prop 39 Energy Efficiency Grant funding from the State of California, to replace 389 units in our schools.
In addition to three full time HVAC technicians, the District proactively contracts with local HVAC repair companies, as a supplement, to address increased needs during peak heat periods.
Filters are cleaned/changed quarterly to promote efficient operation of HVAC units.
Maintenance & Operations staff activate HVAC units two weeks prior to school opening to audit all units and address any repair needs prior to staff and students returning.
Box fans have been purchased for classrooms to supplement the airflow on hot days.
All HVAC units in the District are set using the Hart District board adopted Energy Conservation Guidelines:
Cooling (when occupied) 74-78 degrees Fahrenheit
Heating (when occupied) 66-68 degrees Fahrenheit
If an HVAC unit is not functioning properly, staff are encouraged to report the issue to their plant manager and/or members of the administrative team. The plant manager or assistant principal of facilities will enter a work order for repair that is forwarded to the M&O team.
Classroom failures are a priority for repair. All efforts are made to ensure a safe environment for students and staff. M&O Staff respond to work order requests on HVAC issues using the following priority matrix:
Classrooms - Multi Zone Units (several classrooms served by one unit)
Classrooms - Single Zone Units (priority placed on medically fragile spaces)
Large Assembly Areas - MPR, Theaters (in use as classrooms)
School Administrative Offices
District Administrative Offices
Other District Facilities
