Concussions and a dislocated shoulder sidelined me during my junior and senior wrestling seasons, but I stayed committed to my team. I became a captain, coaching teammates, helping younger athletes, and supporting everyone however I could.
Wrestling is especially meaningful to me because of my late friend, Mark-Anthony Giordano. He was a vital part of the program with an even bigger smile, and everything we do is for him. Being given his shoes in his honor reminds me to keep going no matter what.
Being the first male cheerleader in my school’s history was a truly unique experience. I joined the cheer team as the mascot, drawn to the opportunity to immerse myself in high school life fully. Cheerleading taught me so much beyond just routines and stunts. I loved the camaraderie and the kindness of the team, and I deeply respected our coach’s strict discipline. It was a powerful reminder that stepping outside of my comfort zone can lead to incredible growth and new perspectives. I’m grateful for the experience and the lessons it brought.
