This week we will be focusing on learning about Mesoamerican civilizations.

Standards:

  • 6.E.1.1 Explain how conflict, compromise and negotiation over the availability of resources (i.e. natural, human and capital) impacted the economic development of various civilizations, societies and regions (e.g., competition for scarce resources, unequal distribution of wealth and the emergence of powerful trading networks).

  • 6.G.1.2 Explain the factors that influenced the movement of people, goods, and ideas and the effects of that movement on societies and regions over time.

By the end of this week, you will be able to answer the following questions:

  1. What was the Olmec civilization and how did it emerge?

  2. What factors are viewed as leading to the decline of the Mayan Empire.

  3. How were Mesoamerican civilizations able to flourish and what were some of their innovations?

  4. What were some of the innovations of the Inca empire?

  5. How did the Aztec empire develop their economies, religions, and social order?
