Week 1

(Jan. 19th-22nd)

This week we will be focusing on understanding all of the pieces of online instruction. We will also begin talking about the 5 Themes of Geography.

Standards:

  • 6.G.1.1 Explain how the physical features and human characteristics of a place influenced the development of civilizations, societies and regions (e.g., location near rivers and natural barriers, trading practices and spread of culture).

  • 6.G.1.3 Compare distinguishing characteristics of various world regions (e.g., physical features, culture, political organization and ethnic make-up).

By the end of this week, you will be able to answer the following questions:

  1. What are the major physical features of the Earth?

  2. What are the five themes of Geography?

  3. How can maps, charts, and graphs be used to represent features of physical and human geography?

  4. How do environmental factors influence where humans settle and how societies organize themselves?
