Parent FAQ

Will students have to make up days that they are not in school?

Students will not have to make up Remote/e-Learning days at the end of the school year. The Remote/e-Learning Days count as student attendance days.

What is the difference between Emergency Days, e-Learning (also known as Distance or Remote Learning Days) and "Act of God" days?

The Governor's Executive Order 2020-05 will be counted as Act of God Days (March 17th through March 30th).

Emergency days may be used at the discretion of the District. An Emergency Day must be made up prior to the end of the school year.

Act of God days may only be applied after the District has exhausted all Emergency Days. Act of God days are used for a condition beyond the control of the District that poses a hazardous threat to the health and safety of students. An Act of God day is not required to be made up prior to the end of the school year.

Remote/e-Learning days (Distance or Remote Learning) occur in lieu of normal student attendance. Staff and students may participate in learning activities outside of the classroom that count towards the required 176 instructional days.

Will teachers be accessible at all times during the day via email?

If you have any questions, need login information, or need additional support, teachers will be available via email during school hours throughout the COVID-19 school closure.

Will attendance be taken?

During the mandated closure (deemed "Act of God" days), student attendance will not be taken. On Remote/e-Learning days, students must submit a form (found on the school Remote/e-Learning page) for each Remote/e-learning day in order to be considered present. If students are unable to complete the form or do not have internet access, a parent/guardian must call and leave a message at the school. If you have more than 1 child within the school, each student should complete this form. If your students attend multiple buildings, you will go to each school Remote/e-Learning page to submit the attendance separately.

What if my student does not complete all of the learning activities?

During the mandated closure (deemed "Act of God" days), students are not required to complete all work. The activities provided are meant to help students continue their learning while away from school. These activities are not graded.

What do I do if I do not have access to internet and cannot connect to a hotspot?

Please contact your child's teacher or the school administrator for further assistance or to pick up paper copies of learning activities.

What if my student has an IEP or 504 plan?

Please review this Special Education Guidance document from the Illinois State Board of Education. If you have additional questions, please contact Heidi Lange, Director of Student Support Services.

How does the closure affect State assessments (Illinois Assessment for Readiness (IAR), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Developmental Learning Map Alternative Assessment (DLM-AA), Illinois Science Assessment (ISA), Constitution Exam)?

The State of Illinois submitted a waiver that has been approved to not give any State assessment through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

We know that the free SAT provided by the state is the only opportunity many students get to take a college entrance exam. ISBE is working with the College Board on developing options to allow current 11th grade students to take the SAT in the fall. We hope to have more information on these options by the end of April.
