Happy Week 7 Everyone!

All students completed their MAPS test this last week, and I am so proud of how hard everyone worked!

Our math facts are continuing to get harder, but I have been so impressed by how well students are doing on their timed tests. Because our numbers are getting bigger, we have been talking about "counting on", where students put the first number in their head and count on using the second number. Please enourage students to practice this skill in all areas of addition at home as well.

Additionally, we will be going on a field trip to a pumpkin patch in the month of October. We are in communication with the owner of the pumpkin patch and will be sending more information soon.

Johnny Appleseed Week🍎

• We will be learning about and celebrating Johnny Appleseed this week in 1st grade!

• Students will get to make predictions and taste different types of apples, learn about who Johnny Appleseed was, do apple art projects, and learn about the parts and lifecycle of an apple.

• On Friday, we will be having an apple party celebration to conclude our week!🥧 

• If you would like to volunteer to provide some of our apple celebration items, please sign up here. Thank you!!

Unit 1 Literacy Assessment (beginning Monday)

• This will test: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Phonological Awareness, Decoding, Fluency, Comprehension, Writing

• I will be keeping these throughout the year. Grades will be noted in the gradebook, but if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

See You At The Pole (Wednesday 8:05)

• Wednesday is See You At The Pole where we will gather outside just after the bell rings for the first 10-15 minutes of the morning and pray with students over our school, staff, students, families, etc. You are welcome to join us for prayer.

• PE - every Monday and Friday (9:15-9:45)

*Please be sure to send your child in appropriate clothing and tennis shoes with white/light soles on these days

• Spanish - every Thursday (2:30-3:00)

• Music - every Friday (8:40-9:10)

• Art - every other Friday (11:15-11:45)

• Library - every Tuesday (1:25-1:45)

Daily Homework:

• Unfinished Classwork - all subjects (due the following day)

• Backpack Page - Please have your child read the story at least one time every night this week & initial each night (due on Friday)

• Math Facts Practice (1-10 + 5) (due Friday)

• Spelling & High Frequency Words (HFW) Test

  • From now until Quarter 2, we will be scoring HFW as bonus points (1/2 point each). Students will not loose points if HFW are wrong. 

  • Beginning in Quarter 2, HFW will be deducted by 1/2 point if misspelled

  • Beginning in Quarter 3, HFW will be deducted by 1 full point if misspelled
