Happy Week 6 Everyone!

Students did a great job completing the reading portion on their MAPS test last week! I was so impressed by how well they worked. I continue to remind students to slow down and do their best in all that they do, rather than trying to finish quickly. Students also got to enjoy their first time shopping in our "class store" with the class cash they earned!

Please continue reading with your child daily. 1st grade is all about reading, and it is important that they practice at home to build their fluency and confidence. 

Thank you for working with your child on their memory verse, math facts, spelling, and high-frequency words at home. We only touch on these briefly through the week and it can be frustrating for students when they feel unprepared.

MAPS Testing (2 weeks)

• We will be working on the math portion of our MAPS testing, as well as any makeups, this week on Tuesday & Wednesday (if needed) between recess and lunch

• Please try your best to schedule any appts outside of this testing time, so students are able to complete their test

R.E.D Friday (9/18) - Remember Everyone Deployed

• Wear red to honor our deployed military personnel and their families

• HCS is honored to have military families within our school family and we want to honor the many sacrifices they make as family members delpoy to protect our freedoms.  Thank you to our amazing military families!

Pizza Friday! (9/18)

• • Pizza orders will take place on Wednesday (9/16) (pepperoni option only)

  • If your child was placed on the permanent pizza order list, I will order what is on there unless I here otherwise

Daily Homework:

• Unfinished Classwork - all subjects (due the following day)

• Backpack Page - Please have your child read the story at least one time every night this week & initial each night (due on Friday)

• Math Facts Practice (1-10 + 4) (due Friday)

• Please sign your child's Behavior Log daily and return the following day

Friday End of Week Testing:

• Math Facts (2-minute timed test)

• Spelling & High Frequency Words (HFW) Test

  • From now until Quarter 2, we will be scoring HFW as bonus points (1/2 point each). Students will not loose points if HFW are wrong. 

  • Beginning in Quarter 2, HFW will be deducted by 1/2 point if misspelled

  • Beginning in Quarter 3, HFW will be deducted by 1 full point if misspelled
