Regular school attendance affords every child the opportunity to learn something new, to build self-esteem, to reinforce positive values, to interact with others, and to become an effective and productive citizen. Student attendance is a cooperative effort and the School Board involves parents and students in accepting the responsibility for good attendance. Each parent/guardian or person having control or charge of a child within the compulsory attendance age is responsible for such child’s regular and punctual attendance at school as required under provisions of the law.
Tardies/Early Dismissals - At Langley, our instructional day begins at 7:30am. Students should be in their seats and ready to begin their school day at this time. If your student needs to eat breakfast, please be sure they arrive no later than 7:15am. Students who arrive at school after 7:30 am will need to be signed in by their parent/guardian in the main office.
HCS discourages early dismissal from school except for required medical needs.. After five (5) written notes (per semester) from the parent/guardian, additional tardies/early dismissals may be considered unexcused without written excuses from physicians, court, etc.
For safety reasons, students may not be dismissed from school during the last twenty (20) minutes of the school day except in an emergency. The parent/guardian is requested to notify the school the morning of the day an early dismissal will be needed.
Responses to Unexcused Tardies To and Early Dismissals From School/Class
On the third (3rd) unexcused tardy/early dismissal, the building administrator/designee will give written notice to the parent/guardian.
No later than the fifteenth (15) unexcused tardy to or early dismissal from school, the school administrator/designee will contact the parent/guardian to review the attendance policy, solicit explanations for tardies/early dismissals, and offer appropriate support. If tardies/early dismissals remain unverified or non-medically related, the building administrator/designee may request a conference to complete a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) with the parent/guardian. In addition, the School Social Worker may be contacted at any point that tardies, early dismissals, or absences indicate a student or family need. The building administrator/designee may grant exceptions for documented medical conditions verified by a physician.
