If your child will be absent or late to school, please call the office at 262.781.8283 or email marcyattendance@hamilton.k12.wi.us by 9:05. You may also let me know via email or Seesaw, but you must ALSO let the office know in order for it to be an excused absence.
If you need to change your child’s end of the day dismissal, or if your child will be getting picked up early, please send a note in the morning in your child’s folder. No changes to a student’s end-of-day dismissal routine will be accepted after 2:30 p.m.
Students will make their lunch choice (hot, bistro or home) every morning. Please talk to your child about what they are having for lunch each day. If your child is buying lunch, please review the choices with them and make a decision at home (at least for the first couple of months of school). Students cannot change their mind after 9:05, so it is important that they understand what they are having for lunch.
If your child is still learning how to tie shoes, it may be beneficial for them to wear slip on or velcro shoes to school until they have mastered how to tie securely. Untied laces touch all sorts of things, including the bathroom floor. Click on the link above for tips and tricks to help with shoe tying, including helpful videos.
Learning proper letter formation is important to writing fluently. Since writing is used in all subjects and all grades, this is a vital skill to learn! Students may have beautiful handwriting, however they could be constructing the letter formation wrong, by starting letters at the bottom, forming letters from right to left, or even going back and filling in parts of missing letters after the fact. Unfortunately, this forms bad writing habits that are hard to break, and while they might be able to get by in the earlier years of school, it usually doesn't last. As kids move into first grade, and beyond, the expectations get more and more intense. When kids have poor letter formation habits, they simply can't keep up. There is a reason we teach kids to form their letters from the top down and there is a specific approach to making each letter...because it's faster! Poor letter formation, equals slow, inefficient writing in the long run. Take a look at the link above to help your child with proper letter formation, correct pencil grip tips, and fine motor activities you can do at home.
