In the 2024-25 school year, HHS ran its first section of the AVID elective for 10th grade students. Below, you'll find information about guest speakers for AVID 10 students and all HHS students as well as field trips for AVID 10 from the 2024-25 school year.
College and Career Readiness is a key focus of AVID. To provide students with a more personalized and immersive career exploration experience, AVID sponsored a school-wide Career Day. This event allowed students to select and visit two career sessions of their choice, where they engaged with professionals in small-group settings. Speakers shared insights about their careers, the education and skills required, and advice on getting started in the field. This hands-on opportunity empowered students to explore various career paths, ask questions, and gain valuable knowledge for their future. It was a meaningful and impactful experience for all!
To support students in exploring their postsecondary options, AVID students participated in a college fair experience where they visited and connected with colleges and universities from across Wisconsin. From technical colleges to large public universities and private institutions, students had the chance to speak directly with representatives, learn about admissions, majors, campus life, and more. This opportunity allowed students to discover the diverse college options available to them and begin thinking intentionally about their future educational goals.
Matt Halbach from WCTC visited our AVID 10 students to share valuable information about the college. He discussed the programs and pathways WCTC offers, the application process, and an overview of financial aid options. We appreciated the opportunity to hear from him directly and to ask questions in a more personal setting!
Students attended a field trip to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to hear from an admissions representative about the application process, academic programs, financial aid, housing, and student life. Students then embarked on a walking tour of the campus, including completing a scavenger hunt of key spaces and resources on campus.
