DeStefano Speaks Out on Illegal Immigration

HAMDEN - John DeStefano, the former mayor of New Haven, spoke about his views on illegal immigration, on October 23. During DeStefano’s 20 years in office, one of his most important and controversial decisions was the Elm City Resident Card. The card allowed any resident, even immigrants to use public sources such as parks and other recreational zones. This was crucial until the state allowed any undocumented immigrants to get a driver's license. The Elm City card was also given to people to allow others to see their name and identify them. However the Elm City Resident Card is now almost unused because it is now legal for undocumented immigrants to get drivers license.
