PURPOSITY APP FOR HELPING OTHERS

During the holiday season, we often have requests coming in from our families for assistance. A great and easy way to help others within our community is through the app Purposity. You can download Apple or Andriod then Create an account. Choose Hall County Schools as the default community. Show your generosity by filling needs in your own community. It is so easy! No shopping. No wrapping. Just living on purpose. If you and/or your family should need help this holiday season, or anytime this school year, please email your child's counselor or advisor. #together

NHHS Wellness News

November is a month to give thanks and celebrate life with family and friends. The Wellness team wishes our Trojan family a safe, thankful, and blessed holiday. Here are some tips to avoid holiday weight gain while still enjoying your favorite foods with those you love best:

  • Reduce your consumption of food either in advance of a family gathering or holiday party or the day after

  • Don’t forget to keep moving. Not only is exercise good for your heart and bones, it’s good for your mental health! Even a short work out can stimulate the body to produce endorphins—the body’s feel-good hormones

  • Slow down! Eating too fast is a major reason why people overeat. It can take 15 to 20 minutes for your brain to send the signal to your stomach that you’re full and you need to stop eating

  • Drink water! Water not only keeps you hydrated, but it also helps you feel full faster

Remember, it's all about moderation--enjoy the foods you love, but avoid overindulging! Have a restful and happy Thanksgiving!

READING and LEARNING

Lit Circles! Ever heard of this authentic experience of reading and learning? Amber Beauchamp and Carol Hammond are collaborating with Amber's World Lit students to encourage thoughtful student-centered discussions and a love of reading. The objective is "to allow students to practice and develop skills and strategies of good readers" (DaLie, 2001) as derived from mini-lessons on significant or thought provoking passages, major characters or symbols and figurative language, while building those bridges to the real world application. Students ultimately become better readers- for all classes in school. Ask them about Lit Circles!

FESTIVAL OF TREES

Stop by the media center in the month of December to visit the Festival of Trees. The media center will be full of themed tress created by different clubs and groups at North Hall. Grab a cup of coffee from Coffee Time Cafe and enjoy the season with us. The holiday music will be playing and the Yule Log will be burning. 'Tis the Season.
