Thanksgiving Lunch
Can Food Drive
Oakwood Elementary will be participating in a Community Service Project from November 6th to November 17th .
If you are able to assist, please send in the following food items with your student.
Peanut Butter
Canned meats (Vienna sausages, chicken, tuna, etc)
Canned vegetables
Canned fruits
Rice
Pasta Noodles and Pasta Sauce (no glass)
Items will be collected and redistributed specifically to our own students who receive food bags.
Back Pack Love, in conjunction with Christ Place Church provides nutritious meals and snacks for families over the weekends and extended breaks, free of charge.
Last year, Back Pack Love donated almost 9,000 food bags to students in Hall County, with Oakwood Elementary receiving almost 2,000 food bags.
On a weekly basis, Oakwood Elementary needs 95 food bags. Each bag contains nutritious staples like canned meat, vegetables, fruits, and grains.
If you are a family that receives a food bag, please do not feel obligated to donate food items. It is our goal to use the Oakwood community to continue to support our own.
If you are not currently receiving a food bag and need assistance, please contact the school at (770) 532-1656.

From the Transportation Department:
HCSD has received several calls from parents here about the APP not working correctly or parents having issues with it. There are a few different reasons for this:
If the current address does not match what we have in Infinite Campus, it won’t work. The parents must correct their address with the school first.
If the students weren’t riding the bus prior to their attempt to use the APP, their stop doesn’t exist in our system. The parent must contact bushelp@hallco.org to be placed on a stop (bus).
Basically the APP is working as it should, but it can only be successful if the information in Infinite Campus/Traversa is correct.
Many of the calls have been because parents don’t know their students ID number. They must also know their date of birth for access.
There are many other reasons for problems but parents will need to email bushelp@hallco.org for us to repair them.
Morning Car Rider Student Safety
Students can be proactive and open their own car doors when between drop off spots 1-4. Students do not have to wait for a staff member to open their car door for them. This will assist with the flow of traffic.
As a reminder, please do not park and allow your child to walk across the parking lot by themselves.
November Parent Creativity Contest
To promote creativity in our parents as well as our kids, we have included a “Squiggle Drawing.”
Use the squiggle in a new drawing of your choice, adding details so the viewer can’t tell where the original squiggle was.
You can’t cover up the squiggle, as it must become part of your new picture.
A prize will be awarded to the parent with the most creative drawing.
Kids are welcome to participate too, because drawings will be featured on the morning news.
We will vote on the winning drawing on Thursday, November 30th.
Send in a copy of your drawing before the deadline.
Submissions can be sent to school with your student or you can snap a photo of your drawing and submit by clicking on this link.
