Dear Parents,
We are having a fabulous first week of school at Mt. Vernon! Thank you for your support as we work through the new routines of the school year. Everyone is doing a great job!
If your child is a morning car rider, thank you for arriving early. We close the car rider lane at 7:45, and students who are not in their classroom at 7:50 or the end of morning announcements will be counted tardy. In order to unload and be in the classroom by 7:50, parents are encouraged to arrive to the Odum Smallwood entrance between 7:10 and 7:15. If you arrive to the car rider entrance after it is closed, you will need to take your child to the front office to check in where he/she will be counted tardy.
To pick up a student in the afternoon car rider line, you must have the student's current car rider tag. Dismissal begins at 2:20 and ends at 2:45. A total of 4 car rider tags are available to parent/guardians with photo ID between 8:00-1:30 and 2:45-3:30. Please see other car rider reminders below.
Our Jr. Trojans are already showing The Trojan Way each day! Our staff has been working hard to develop and grow relationships with our students during class, transitions and with lunch buddies in the cafeteria. Students are learning to pick up real silverware for their lunch after they pick up their milk. Please see the new milk price below if your child purchases milk for lunch from home.
Chromebooks are being checked out to students and will stay at school. In order to check out a Chromebook, Infinite Campus parent portal forms should be complete. Thank you for completing back to school forms in the parent portal and others linked below if you have not already done so.
*Parents should go in Infinite Campus and put the current date for your child's HEALTH FORM. * Without doing this, Nurse Devra cannot access your child's important health form information.
Students will take their beginning of the year MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments next week. This assessment adjusts for students depending on their levels in language arts/reading and math. Teachers will introduce the assessment to students in an age-appropriate way. Growth reports will be shared with parents during the school year.

Hall County Schools Bus App for Parents
Reminder from HCSD Transportation Dept: Nonresident students including HB251, Magnet and Tuition students, are not allowed to ride the bus to or from school unless it is a school day field trip experience. Nonresident families are required to provide transportation (car rider or MVES approved afternoon day care). Please contact the MVES front office with questions.
Car Rider Reminders
For morning drop-off, please have your student gather belongings, water bottle, etc. so he/she is prepared to exit the car quickly with all belongings READY when your car arrives at the sidewalk for drop-off.
Please remain in your car when unloading AND loading students. If you need to buckle students into car seats, please pull into the spaces next to the hill after you exit the loading area.
Please have students load/unload from the PASSENGER SIDE if possible. This saves time and is safer than having students cross between cars.
Please pull up as far as possible in the car rider line. The unloading/loading area is the entire length of the sidewalk.
A current car rider tag is required for pick up in the car rider line.
Our campus (including the car rider line) is a drug free/tobacco free campus.
It is unsafe for children to hang out of car windows or stand up through the sun roof while in line.

MVES PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
Partners in Education are critical to our success as a community school. Our school community is strengthened by the support of our PIEs, our PTO and The North Hall Community Education Foundation. During the 2024-25 school year, our students and staff received wonderful support from our partners, and we are thankful!
Our primary request is for monetary donations in the amount of $700-$1,000. Donations are primarily used to support school facilities and beautification, school-wide enrichment, and student and staff recognition. Our school also benefits from designated support for initiatives such as technology enhancements and STEM education.
In return for your support of MVES, we are committed to a yearlong recognition program for our Partners in Education. PIEs will be recognized through a variety of ways including school signage, student t-shirts, and school publications. The deadline for partnerships to be included on this year’s field trip t-shirt is Friday, August 8, 2025. Donations can be mailed to MVES, 4844 Jim Hood Rd, Gainesville, GA 30506, or dropped off to Missy Odom at the front office. If you or your business would like one of our PIE appreciation yard signs, please let us know, and one of our team members will deliver a sign to you during the 2025-26 school year. We love to see these signs in our community!
Many of you have a particular area or project that you have generously sponsored for us in the past, and we appreciate your support in these areas! For example, if you supported our Math Master t-shirts during 2024-25, we would love to have your support again this year for our new 2025-26 Math Master t-shirts! Other special areas and projects include professional learning day staff breakfasts or treats, Curriculum Night staff dinner, extracurricular enrichment club sponsors and One School One Book.
Thank you for your support of our school community! Go Trojans!

Principal
Frequently Asked Questions about Birthdays:
If you would like your child's class to celebrate his/her birthday at school, please communicate in advance with the teacher. Buying the class ice cream or sending in store-bought birthday treats (ex. cupcakes, donuts) can be planned ahead with the teacher. The teacher will distribute the treats at the appropriate time. We are unable to distribute invitations at school.
Hall County Schools and MVES encourage family involvement in our schools. Parents will be invited to participate in special school and PTO events during and after school.
School visitors must have ID and be listed on the student's Infinite Campus approved contacts.
Visitors should not take/post pictures of other students.
A schedule for lunch visits will be available after Labor Day. Visitor seating will be scheduled on a limited basis due to space.
no outside food will be permitted in the MVES cafeteria
only 2 guests per student (unable to bring siblings from another grade)
must have ID and be listed on IC approved contacts
sit with their student at visitor tables
School and field trip volunteers must complete the HCSD application with volunteer modules through Checkmate (available beginning September 9, 2025). The application will be available online and at the front office between 8:30-1:00 and 3:00-3:30. Due to district guidelines, volunteer applications and modules will be required each school year.
Following the first day of school, students arriving by car should come through the car rider line off Odum Smallwood Road. The front and front lower parking lots should only be used by buses and staff during arrival and dismissal times.
If you need to check out your child from school (we ask that you limit check-outs as much as possible), please notify the child's teacher and the front office staff in advance from a parent/guardian email address and call 770-983-1759 to confirm:

INFINITE CAMPUS PARENT PORTAL REQUIRED FORMS
During the week of July 7th, parents received in Parent Portal documents to confirm or update household, emergency contact, and student information for their child(ren) for the upcoming school year.
When parents log into Infinite Campus Parent Portal for the first time this year, parents will be prompted by a pop-up message to complete an Annual Census Update before accessing your student’s information, including viewing class schedules when published by your child’s school.
Parents will need to confirm or update household, emergency contact, and student information. For security purposes parents will need to upload a copy of their ID for each child. The process can be completed on any device; however, it is recommended that the process be completed on a mobile phone to make uploading of parent ID easier. Any parent without a device can complete the task at your child’s school at Open House.
Once the Annual Census Update has been filled out, parents will need to complete one form that includes below information:
Compulsory Education Notification
Book Notification
Student Services Program Acknowledgment
Digital Media Release
Scoliosis Screening Program (Grades 6 and 8 only)
Participation in Clubs and Organizations (Middle and High School only)
Code of Conduct
Student School Agendas and Planning Guides
Student Device Acceptable Use and Checkout Agreement
If you have any questions or need any help accessing your Parent Portal, please contact our front office.
