Dear Parents,

I hope all of you enjoyed the Winter Break holidays this week.  Our teachers had a productive day of professional learning on Wednesday focusing on AI as a teacher tool and structured literacy.  

In response to questions about lunch visitors and outside food, please see the updates below in the visitor and volunteers section.  No outside food in restaurant packaging will be permitted in the MVES cafeteria.  

Congrats to kindergarten student, Calliope Wolf, and 5th grade student, Laney Hulsey, for being named Hall County Schools Young Georgia Authors District Finalists for 2023-2024!  Pioneer RESA will announce region winners in March.  Go Trojans!  

Picture day will be next Thursday, February 29.  Mark your calendars for Read Across America that will kick off on Friday, March 1 (see details below).

Important Dates to Remember:

We will kick off Read Across America Week with an optional Hat Day on Friday, March 1!  Students can bring a $1 donation to wear a hat.  Donations will go towards a school service learning project.  

Please sign up to read to your child's class during Read Across America Week!  Volunteer approval must be complete prior to participation.

HCSD In-District Applications Open from Feb. 1 - March 1 for 2024-2025 School Year: The in-district school choice applications are now open, and parents/guardians will complete these in the Parent Portal of Infinite Campus. Kindergarten Transfer Requests open up on March 18, during Kindergarten Registration, and parents/guardians should first register their child in their zoned school, then complete the In-District Transfer Request.

2023-24 MVES & HCSD Volunteer Directions:

We appreciate the support of volunteers at MVES!  Volunteers are scheduled for different opportunities throughout the year.  If you are interested in scheduling a time for one or more of the following volunteer opportunities, please visit the link below or choose "Checkmate Volunteer" at the front office kiosk to receive the application by email.  Approval must be received BEFORE any volunteer time is scheduled.  Approved volunteers must have a pre-arranged appointment with staff to assist at MVES.    


School and field trip volunteers will be scheduled through the teacher and front office.  Volunteers must complete the HCSD application with volunteer modules through Checkmate.  The application will be available online and at the front office between 8:30-1:00 and 3:00-3:30.  

*Approved volunteer applications will be valid for 2 school years.  


Parents/volunteers who have completed and submitted the following will be receiving an approval email from school administration within 2 weeks of application

Volunteers will need to complete the Mandated Reporter and Suicide Awareness and Prevention modules. These can be accessed when you initially submit the application or under your “profile” when you log back in. (Keyword: HallVolunteers)

 

After submitting the application, add the “Role” of Volunteer at MVES and answer the emergency contact and background questions.

MVES is excited to welcome our parents/guardians for lunch with your students!  ALL lunch visitors will be required to have a reservation due to very limited seating.  Visitors are limited to signing up for only 1 time during the dates below.  A new sign-up will be shared for the next dates following Fall Break. 


For the safety of students, please note the following:

·         For your child’s lunch visit, 1 or 2 adults (must have ID and be on student IC contact list) may join the same reservation (no school-age siblings; younger children should be in lap or stroller to help with limited seating). 

·         Siblings from other grade levels cannot be combined into the same reservation, but a parent can sign up 1 time during these dates for each child. 

·         Outside food will not be allowed to be brought into the MVES cafeteria (HCSD guideline). 

·         Lunch visitors will eat in the visitor seating area located outside the office, across from the learning commons. 

·         Lunch visitors will meet their child in the hall as his/her class goes to lunch and sign-out in the office after the lunch period ends (student will rejoin his/her class at the end of the lunch time). 

·         Visitors may purchase lunch in the cafeteria for $4.50 each (cash or check). 

·         Lunch visitors may have lunch with your child only.  Other students cannot join your lunch visit.

Car Rider Reminders 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - CHECKOUTS & CAR RIDER CLINGS 


For school safety, the HCSD requests that parents and family members show ID and wait outside when checking out students.  A staff member will walk your student out for check out.  This is a different procedure than checking in students since the family member signs the student into school if they are tardy.  Visitors who have a meeting or scheduled visit will be buzzed into the building once they show ID.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work hard to keep our schools safe.  

  

In order to pick up a student in the car rider line, a current car rider cling is required.  Parent/guardians can get additional car rider clings from the front office during school hours with parent/guardian ID.  If a student needs to be picked up by another contact, the parent/guardian should notify the office and teacher in writing to give permission.  Without your child's cling, the individual picking up your child should pick up at the front office (with ID) at 2:40.  If they are also picking up their own child/ren, they do not need to go through the car rider line first.  This procedure will help us ensure safety regarding access to students.  Thank you for your partnership and support!  

Frequently Asked Questions about Birthdays:

If you would like your child's class to celebrate his/her birthday at school, please communicate in advance with the teacher.  Buying the class ice cream or sending in store-bought birthday treats (ex. cupcakes, donuts) can be planned ahead with the teacher.  The teacher will distribute the treats at the appropriate time.  We are unable to distribute invitations at school.
