Turn to a page in the book.
Read it silently.
Keep track of the number of words you don't know.
Once you get to 5, you know the book is too hard! Put it back and get something easier.

6th Grade
What we are learning..
We just finished Unit 1 - Number System Fluency. We took our Unit 1 Test on September 3. Next week, students will spend a day reviewing their errors on Unit 1 test and correcting mistakes.
We have now started Unit 2 - Ratios, Rates, & Proportional Reasoning
Unit 2 will cover the following:
Writing, simplifying, and making equivalent ratios.
Completing ratio tables and graphing ratio tables.
Solving unit rate and unit price problems.
Solving percent problems.
Converting between customary and metric measurements.
At the beginning of October, students will take the Quarter 1 CBA (county wide assessment) covering concepts from Unit 1 & 2.
Ask your child...
What is your homework today? They should be practicing the IXL links posted on each day's announcement on Canvas.
Remind them that there are tips and video links embedded in the IXL skills that they can use to help them solve each problem.
7th Grade
What we are learning...
We are finishing up Unit 1 - The Number System. Students will complete a project on September 8th and 9th to wrap up Unit 1.
We will begin Unit 2 - Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities on September 11th. This Unit is very similar to concepts students learned in 6th grade, but now with the addition of negative numbers.
Unit 2 will cover the following:
Order of Operations with negatives
Simplifying algebraic expressions
Factoring & expanding algebraic expression
2 step equations
Writing inequalities, expressions, and equations from situations
Graphing Inequalities
Solving 1 and 2 step inequalities

What we are learning..
This month we will be continuing our journey to the interior of the Earth.
Unit 1a Test will be Sept. 9.
We will continue to work on gathering evidence to support the Plate Tectonics Theory.
Ask your child...
to explain their learning each day. They should be annotating or rewriting their notes each evening.
Social Studies
Your student has a standing homework assignment of studying their notes and/or maps 10-15 minutes per school night.

This month, we are completing our unit about Europe Geography.
