Starter Activity (Local Conservation of Biodiversity)
This weekend (27-29 Jan 2018) it is the Big Garden Birdwatch. This is an event organised by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) one of the best UK based organisations for conservation. The Big Garden Bird Watch is a national data collection by sampling birds across the country and is the largest species counting event in the UK.
The count provides valuable data for conservation activities and is a great way to start thinking about how you may use species sampling for your internal assessment.
Your activity is to familiarise yourself with the resource below (Big Garden Birdwatch pdf and RSPB twitter feed) and take part in this weekends count. It will bring you closer to nature and may even be fun.
Starter Activity (Global Conservation of Biodiversity)
Greenpeace who may be better known for their climate change work are a great global organisation to follow on twitter and do fantastic work on conservation of biodiversity. They do this through educational materials, lobbying for legislation and protesting environmental injustice.
Below is their twitter feed for you to explore and a video advertising their Greenpeace VR Explore app which we will be evaluating as an educational resource next week.
