Picture activity
The title picture for this section is from the Sossuvlei in the Namib desert (Southern Coast of African Continent). This is an example of a biome known as a hot desert, biodiversity is low here due to the lack of variation in habitat, lack of water and high temperatures. However, species still live and interact here (see some examples below)
A keyword for you to know is Biome. A biome is a collection of ecosystems that are classified according to their predominant vegetation; they share similar climatic conditions and organisms that have adaptations to the environment.
Considering our example of a hot desert try to list all the types of biome you think there are.
Namib Desert Horse (Equus caballus)
Gembok (Oryx gazella)
Namaqua Chameleon (Chamaeleo namaquensis)
Namib Sand Gecko (Pachydactylus rangei)

Your factsheets should include the following:

'Why do we have different biomes?' Activity
Watch the videos below and create a one page summary on why we have different biomes. You can support your understanding with Kognity (sections 2.4.1-2.4.3) and the Oxford textbook. The summary should include notes on:

Succession and Zonation
In two teams you will create a 15-20 minute lesson on Succession or Zonation for the other team. The lesson must include the following:
