This will be happening Term 3 2018 - this site will be updated once information comes to hand.

Learning Outcomes for this project:

• Compose 4-8 minutes of original dance and drama (Evidence for Collaborative, Compassionate, Contributor, Designer, Fa’aaloalo, Resilient, NCEA Dance, Drama, Performing Arts)
• Perform those pieces in front of an audience (Evidence for Collaborative, Compassionate, Contributor, Fa’aaloalo, Rangatiritanga, Resilient NCEA Dance, Drama, Performing Arts)

• What would you like to do for Stage Challenge? Do you dance? Do you work backstage? What would be your plan for this? Do you have people to work with? What questions do you have?
• You must create a topic you want to portray. This needs to be something you are all passionate about. Get your group together and start brainstorming ideas.
• You will be asked to review each other's contribution. (Collaborative, Contributor)
• You will need to choose your music to go with your topic. Start thinking of songs you could use. They must be published pieces, not originals.

Start to play with your ideas for your dance/drama. Do you have moves you like? What style will you use?

Use a range of motifs and from these develop and structure your dances. On the resources page, you will find suggestions about how to develop your dances. (Designer)

Choose your songs and start to get them into an order. You can use Garageband on the Macs to edit your pieces.

• Are your ideas working? Do they fit the requirements for Stage Challenge?
• Are you using a range of dance ideas?
• What about lighting? Props? Costumes? What do you need? How are you going to get these?

• Have you used variation to keep people's interest?
• Have you shown ability to structure ideas into a coherent whole (for example, the dance has an appropriate balance of repetition and variety, a clear beginning, middle, and end, and a sense of shape and progression and a good story)?
• Perform your piece to others and get their feedback - what do they think?
• From feedback, improve your piece (Resilient)

Video your performance - watch it. Is it effective?

Refine your piece and re-work until you think it is effective and convincing. (Resilient)

Listen carefully to the advice of your performers, and further refine and re-work your piece. Repeat the refining process until you feel your piece is as effective and convincing as you can make it.

Performance

Perform your song for Stage Challenge. (Collaborative, Contributor, Compassionate)

In a quality performance, the performers will:

• enthusiastically interact with each other
• respond to each another
• respond to the space in which they are performing
• respond to the audience
• display self-assurance
• perform fluently, with any errors making little or no impact on the overall audience response.
