Whakaoriori Kāhui Ako- Collaboratively building potential across Whakaoriori.
I am a kaitiaki of the Ngati Hamua hapu and Rangitane o Wairarapa. Trained by kaumatua in Wairarapa history, tikanga, taiao and tangata/whanau. Then encouraged to keep learning and sharing. My additional interest in people and places has led to wider research on the history of the Wairarapa Region.
When we asked what teachers would like, there were two immediate responses, which were more pūrākau and directions/information on places to go. For a start there are more pūrākau in the folder.
In terms of places to go, for now there are videos on our Facebook Page – Potangaroa Education. These short videos are about Wairarapa Reserves, rivers and some significant sites. We understand that, for instance, local reserves are still not widely known, so we are very keen to share where these are.
Pressing the video function will locate the videos. In addition to what is already available, I will make some more videos on places to go as I can.
Please contact me if you have any questions or thoughts.

Who wrote what?
I wrote most of the material, sometimes because I felt motivated, other times whilst working for Rangitāne o Wairarapa or under a contract somewhere else.
The times spent at Rangitāne were not so straight forward as an employer employee relationship. I often wrote proposals, managed and worked a project whilst communicating with kaumatua throughout the duration. In these and other situations they were happy to see work done under the organisation's umbrella, but the intellectual property remain with me.
I write this for reassurance that I am able to use and distribute material. Most of that material was produced for educational purposes.
Direct acknowledgements are given to other authors where their work is used.
There are some adaptions of very old Māori stories too, some that were recorded by European ethnographers but of course came from Māori sources and were known widely in one form version or another.
