About Us!

Who We Are

Heart 2 Heart Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving animal welfare in Charlton County through community-driven programs. Founded in 2024, we are entirely volunteer-operated and rely on donations, grants, and in-kind support to fuel our mission.

We are not a shelter and can only take in an animal when we have both a foster and funds. Instead, we fill critical gaps with practical, grassroots solutions that make an immediate difference for animals and the people who care about them.

Our Story

Charlton County is rural and low-income, and it has gone decades without animal control or any organized animal welfare. Neighbors tried for years to start a humane society, and nothing took hold. In 2024, a group of us came together and incorporated as a nonprofit. We hoped to open a full humane society in an unused county-owned building, but that wasn't possible, so we started with what we had. In March 2025 we began our TNVR program, and we've been growing it with help from our community and partner rescues ever since.

Our Mission

To reduce animal overpopulation and suffering in Charlton County through accessible, community-driven TNVR and low-cost spay/neuter services — meeting our community where it is, with the resources we have, and making meaningful, sustained progress together. 

Our Vision

We envision a Charlton County where every resident, regardless of income or circumstance, has access to the resources they need to care for their animals — and where compassionate, community-driven animal welfare is something our neighbors can count on. 

What We Do

• Community Cat TNVR: Humanely reducing overpopulation through spay/neuter, vaccination, and safe return.

• Low-Cost Spay/Neuter for Pets: Helping residents get their pets fixed for less through our clinic partner.

• Rescue and Foster Partnerships: Working with sanctuaries, rescues, and fosters to find safe placement for animals without homes.

• Community Resources and Education: Pointing neighbors to the help they need and sharing what we know about humane animal care.

Heart 2 Heart is led by a volunteer board and supported by fosters and helpers from the community. It takes a village!
