How to Support our Charity Partners

Our aim is to celebrate the achievements of girls and women from every walk of life and raise awareness and funds for two worthy causes whose work we admire and wish to see flourish in the future. For 150 years our guiding principle has been Ex Corde Caritas - with love from the heart - and this continues today through the charitable work of the staff and pupils of George Watson’s College.

This anniversary gives us the chance to continue to make a difference to families and young people.

All donations we receive until 31 July 2022 will be given directly to our two chosen charities Scottish Love in Action and Open Book.

- The GWLC 150 Committee

Open Book organises and runs over 1200 shared reading and creative writing sessions each year, for a diverse range of community and public participants across Scotland, with a geographical reach from Shetland to Stranraer.

The charity runs groups both in person and online, in prisons, libraries, care homes, community and multicultural groups, hospices, healthcare and other public settings.

Reading aloud has been widely recognised as having a significant positive impact on mental health. Open Book uses literature as a way of tackling social isolation, connecting communities and amplifying voices we don't always get to hear.

Scottish Love in Action have helped give children in India the education, life skills and support they need to flourish since 2000. They support grassroots projects such as Voice 4 Girls, a programme aimed at girls currently in education, but at high risk of dropping out due to family or employment pressures.
