GWAPA WhatsApp Guidelines
GWAPA would like to bring to your attention that in recent weeks we have received a substantial number of concerns from parents regarding the use of class/grade WhatsApp groups across the school, therefore, we would like to gently remind you about the WhatsApp group guidelines. We strongly believe these groups can be beneficial to the parents and community, but we encourage everyone to remain respectful and considerate and keep a friendly tone.
The main purpose of these groups is to share important information regarding class activities such as reminders of events, deadlines and dates in the GWA calendar. These groups can be beneficial tools when used correctly but when not used correctly, it can become negative, disrespectful and personal, which should never be the intention of these groups. Please always rely on official channels of communication from GWA including Seesaw, Managebac, Emails and the Newsletter. If you have a particular concern or complaint regarding GWA or any member of its Staff, please raise it directly with the school (Classroom Teacher, Form Tutor, Grade Leaders, or Senior Leadership Team).
What to do:
Think before you post.
Share reminders about deadlines, school activities, events, dress down days, and where to buy project supplies, costumes etc..
Primary Class Parent - share information from the class teacher.
Secondary parents to share official school communication.
Sharing relevant community notices e.g. road closures or new traffic lights in the local area, etc.
What not to do:
Please do not use the group for casual or private conversations.
Share personal problems or complaints.
Point out another student’s behaviour.
Discuss issues regarding individual students (your own or others), parents or teachers.
Discuss the work of teachers: if you have any concerns go directly to the teacher/school.
Share "fake news" - this can be hurtful and damaging.
Please remember that once something is written on a Whatsapp group, it's public and not confidential.
Remember to be kind, informative, factual, non-political, culturally sensitive and respectful.
