Welcome to our Fifth Grade Summer Learning Site!
For students entering fifth grade in Fall 2023.
Hi Fourth Grade Students and Families!
We hope you have a wonderful summer full of exploring and growing.
Language Arts:
You have a required summer reading book. Please read this LETTER from Mrs. Romanelli, your 5th-grade ELA teacher (follow the link in the word LETTER) to learn more about it.
We suggest that parents purchase the Grade 4 Language Arts summer skills review workbook (linked in blue). This book will help students review and refresh themselves on basic 4th-grade skills as they prepare for 5th-grade.
Optional: if you worked in the Language Arts summer skills review workbook this summer, please bring it in to share with Mrs. Romanelli.
Math:
The required work Ms. Wyman would like you to complete for Math this summer is Practice & Review Sheets 1-8. They will help you review things you did this year in 4th grade, and sometimes they might ask you to stretch your thinking and challenge yourself to use what you know to try something new. Here is a link to these worksheets. You can complete one each week this summer to keep your flexible math brain ready for next school year.
You should also complete these two division worksheets.

In addition, 5th-grade math requires students to be confident in their math facts. If you have not mastered your addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts yet, you need to commit to doing XTRAMath practice every week (perhaps every day if needed). Students should aim to keep those math fact skills sharp! (If you have already mastered through your multiplication and division facts, please challenge yourself this summer by going to IXL. If you haven't yet, complete Diagnostics, which will help you identify skills you are ready for. Then regularly complete any suggested skills that Diagnostics recommends in your learning arena.)
Another suggestion is that parents/guardians purchase the Summer Skills Workbook for math at the website linked here for additional review practice this summer. It provides some informational pages that remind students of how to complete certain skills, a glossary of terms, and answer pages to check their work. We suggest this book as an excellent review of the work they have done this year!
If you want more optional practice, IXL even has some printable practice packets for Math! Check those free printables at the following link: IXL At Home Learning Packs.
