Rising 3rd Grade
Welcome to our Third Grade Summer Learning Site!
For students entering third grade in Fall 2024.
Hi Second Grade Families,
We are so proud of all of the amazing work that second graders have accomplished this year. We hope that you enjoy lots of relaxing family time and make wonderful summer memories. We recommend making a schedule with your child and sticking to it! Here are our suggestions to reinforce and maintain math and literacy skills over the summer:
Please write in a journal at least three times a week.
Read, read, read! Students should read independently.
IXL and Lexia three times a week. Lexia Sign In IXL Sign In
The third grade teachers would like all incoming students to read, Indian Shoes, by Cynthia Leitich Smith. Please read this book together so you can discuss it. Refer to this document before you read.
We suggest that families purchase a language arts summer skills book HERE.
Summer Math: It would be very beneficial to your child to continue practicing the basic addition and subtraction facts, along with these multiplication facts, throughout the summer months. It is expected that they will have mastery of their basic addition and subtraction facts as they enter third grade. For some, mastery comes slower, but continued practice is the best way to achieve this goal. There are lots of fun ways to practice, including games, songs and apps for ipads, and other devices. We advise working on four to five facts a week so that your child is not overwhelmed. It may not seem like many facts, but this approach usually yields remarkable progress. Here is a link to the addition and subtraction fact strategies that your children were introduced to this year. If your child is struggling with some of the basic facts, going back to the strategies might be helpful. We have also included some worksheets to help practice some of the strategies. Those can be accessed through this link.
We suggest that families can purchase a math summer skills book HERE.
There are some review worksheets and the addition and subtraction fact strategies on the resource page.
Love,
Ms. B and Ms. D
