The Music Curriculum at Gurnard Primary School has been carefully planned to develop children's knowledge and skills across year groups. Through careful mapping, we have ensured that children are given the understanding that they will need to make progression in the subject. Using the progression map below, we have carefully scaffolded learning so that learners will become confident in a variety of essential Music skills, and have the knowledge to support them in a variety of areas.
We strive to make music an enjoyable learning experience. We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. A thematic approach is run alongside the Solent Music Hub whole class instrumental programme of Guitar for Year 3, Ukulele in Year 4, and Xylophones in Year 5. Music in Year 6 is delivered beside a series of expert led workshops and internally an internally taught instrument in the Summer term. The aim of teaching music in our school is to build up the confidence of every child, allow them to express themselves creatively and give them the opportunity to explore their own talents and passions.
