In Music we have integrated a range of strategies into the lesson structure and delivery to support the inclusion of all learners within learning. This ensures that all of the children at Gurnard Primary School receive a broad and balanced curriculum that is suitable to the needs of all.
Photos 1 and 2 show children (KS1 & 2) using physical musical instruments to experience a ‘hands-on’ approach to learning.
Photos 3 and 4 shows children in Reception and KS1 working in pairs and small groups to allow for paired support and shared understanding of music making.
Photos 5, 6 and 7 show digital music opportunities to focus on understanding of the concept of being able to represent music in various formats. Computer-based tools have become the standard for the music industry, therefore having access to these opportunities serves as an excellent environment for creative development, offering self-awareness of children's creative process and creative thinking skills.
Photo 8 and 9 shows meaningful learning experiences that have encouraged children's extrinsic motivation. Below reflects the questioning that is used throughout lessons to provoke thinking, even within Year 6's digital film music project.
Photos 10, 11 and 12 show how we use creative music approaches to ensemble music making, in order to inspire and encourage learners within Music.
Photos 13 and 14 show how meaningful music making has placed the learners at the heart of the lesson. These photos reflect the opportunities Year 3 had to generate their own musical rhythm phrases based on their own likes and dislikes to certain fruit and vegetables. The children were able to use the 'rhythm phrases' to beat out their rhythm on a djembe drum.
