On this page is a selection of work to demonstrate the learning that takes place in Maths lessons across the school. We have included a variety of work, alongside photos of the children learning and participating in class to show the wide range of activities and enrichment events in which they take part.
In Early Years we provide the children with a variety of experiences that ensure that they have the understanding to progress into Year 1. The learning environment supports mathematical learning.
In Key Stage 1, the children continue to develop their understanding of key mathematical concepts. There is an emphasis also on the teaching of fluency using the Number Sense programme - a daily lesson to promote the recall of number facts. There are various ways of recording outcomes in KS1. This might take the form of written work, photographs and the use of SeeSaw in Year 1 where children can independently post their completed work.
In Years 3 and 4, the children further develop their skills across the Maths Curriculum to ensure they are fluent with whole numbers and the four operations. By the end of Year 4, the children should be fluent in recall of their multiplication tables up to and including 12 time tables.
In Year 4, the children will sit a statutory multiplication tables check (MTC) in June. There are 25 questions on times tables 2 to 12. Each child has around 6 seconds to answer a question.
In Years 5 and 6, children extend their learning of the number system and place value with increasingly larger numbers. They develop connections between decimals, fractions and percentages as well as ratio. Children need to be able to read, spell and pronounce any mathematical vocabulary correctly. In Year 6, teaching algebra and order of operations as well as ratio and proportion.
