F A Q s

Q. Can students from other universities take the selection exam?

A. It is possible if you plan to enroll in the doctoral program at Gunma University. For details, please refer to the application guidelines in the Admission Guide.

Q. Are there any restrictions on working students or age?

A. There are no restrictions under this program.

However, persons who are deemed to have a stable income, such as salaries and executive compensation totaling more than 2.4 million yen per year, may not apply.

Q.Can international students also apply?

A. You can apply for this program. There are no nationality requirements, and students are eligible to apply.

However, international students receiving support from the Japanese Government Scholarship Program and international students receiving scholarships or other support from their home governments are not eligible for this program.

In addition, since the program is administered under the auspices of the Japanese government, students eligible for support must have the will and ability to be directly involved in the creation of science, technology, and innovation in Japan after completion of the program.

Since some of the seminars will be conducted in Japanese, students are expected to have a level of Japanese language proficiency of JLPT N2.

Q.Can I apply for a scholarship from a foundation or a private company if my salary is less than 2 million yen per year?

Scholarship recipients should check to see if their funding source allows them to receive a research scholarship under this program concurrently.

If the foundation or other organization does not allow dual funding, the scholarship recipient is not eligible to apply.

The income threshold is 2.4 million yen per year, so if your income is less than 2.4 million yen per year, you may apply.

Q. Can I continue as a JSPS Postdoctoral Researcher (DC)?

A. You cannot continue. You will lose your eligibility as a program student. Please notify us as soon as possible.

Q. Can I apply even if I receive a scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO)?

A. Since the scholarship has different implications from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship, it is basically possible to receive both loan and grant types of scholarships at the same time.

In addition to the above, there is a possibility that JASSO does not allow students to receive scholarships at the same time, so please be sure to check with JASSO.

Q. If I take a leave of absence, can I continue to receive financial aid as a program student?

A. In the case of a leave of absence, support will be suspended during the period of the leave of absence.

Consult with the office in advance, as consultation with JST may be required.

In the case of a leave of absence, the period of support will be the duration of the doctoral program. In cases due to life events such as childbirth or childcare, please consult with us individually.

Q. If I am expelled or disciplined, do I have to pay back the money?

A. In principle, no refund is required.

However, if the reason is due to research misconduct, etc., all or part of the amount already paid will be required to be returned. The return will be handled in accordance with Article 23 of the JST's Project Grant Outline.
