2018-2019 ETHICAL LEADERSHIP SUMMARY

Ethical Leadership

The Ethical Leadership Committee met with different entities on campus to discuss and educate on the pillar of Ethical Leadership, while also launching a variety of programs to center Ethical Leadership in the work of The Edge.

REVIEW/UPDATES

• Ethical Leadership Committee began the year’s work with an Ethical Leadership Retreat, open to Guilford Community (Aug)
• Krishauna Hines-Gaither met with Center for Principled Problem Solving scholars to give presentation on Ethical Leadership (Jan)
• Implemented Ethical Leadership Training into Day of Service to all first year students by Bonner Scholars/James Shields (Sep)
• Launched Social Justice Week Grounded in Ethical Leadership (Oct)
• Trained Multicultural Leadership Scholars to work with FYE classes to implement diversity and immigration training to all first year students
• The EL model is being incorporated into the new model of the Quaker Leadership Scholars Program

CURRENT STATUS/EARLY OUTCOMES

• The introduction of the Ethical Leadership Model has been very positive with both faculty and student groups.
• Ethical Leadership Committee has drafted core outcomes to guide course development, and faculty are submitting proposals for Mellon funding to support this work. .
• We have expanded the number of students attending leadership conferences:

FUTURE PATHS/PROSPECTS

• The Curriculum Transition Committee (CTC) proposed that Ethical Leadership Model be incorporated into Initiate courses.
• Ethical Leadership Committee proposes to offer annual conference, publication, scholars & practitioners in residence on Ethical Leadership to catapult Guilford College to national prominence. For instance, working to bring Rev. Dr. William J. Barber III and some of his team to campus for Spring 2020 as an Ethical Leadership Scholar in Residence.
