Work with, or under the direct guidance of, your research mentor for a minimum of 90 hours.
Thoroughly document your work in narrative detail in your laboratory notebook.
Confer or meet with your research teacher as needed throughout the summer about your progress.
Meet with your teacher at or near the end of the summer to determine your summer grade. (We do this at your first bi-weekly meeting of the new school year.)
Complete a detailed time log to reflect the 90 hour summer requirement. (See the "Documents & Forms" section to be sure your time log is formatted correctly.)
Make any pertinent updates to your research website.
Continue your Annotated Bibliography to document your research progress. Your final classwork assignment of the school year (104-5) had you start your bibliography. Review that assignment information under Year 1 Classwork if you need a refresher.
If applicable, continue to update your Potential Mentor Log. (This only applies to students who do not secure a mentor by the summer registration deadline and are completing their summer work to be eligible to continue in the course. By your first bi-weekly meeting in September, you should have at least 10 new potential mentors listed.)
Complete a detailed time log to reflect the 90 hour summer requirement. (See the "Documents & Forms" section to be sure your time log is formatted correctly.)
Make any pertinent updates to your research website.
Thoroughly and accurately record data analysis and interpretation in your laboratory notebook (or equivalent). Create figures to display your data.
Complete as much as you can on the first draft of your Final Paper. It is ok if some sections of your paper are still in outline form. (See the "Paper Writing" section for more information.)
Begin to prepare for competitions by printing out a copy of the Competitions Checklist (also found in the "Documents & Forms" section) and adding it to your portfolio. Take note of the checklist for your first bi-weekly meeting of the school year.
