Currently my research is focused on cellular neuroscience with the disorder spinocerebellar ataxia type 1. A fatal neurodegenerative disease that primarily affects cerebellar Purkinje cells and brainstem nuclei, causing cerebellar syndrome (Huang, 2021). My lab is studying ways to help the effects of the disease. One of which affects the mitochondria, causing calcium to be released and shared between cells.
I hope to figure out how exactly the calcium travels between the cells, whether it is via TNT, or other means. Using many lab techniques to see the calcium being transferred, and disconnecting those links.
