College Tour - First Generation Students Class

Introducing The College Tour's First-Gen focused class - First Generation Students Class.

The class is video-based, using segments from The College Tour TV series. All videos in the class are told by students currently attending college. The classes are for all ages, from middle school to high school students to adult learners. In the class, we cover four key pillars for students to start thinking about: college location, campus culture, college type, and majors.

We have also curated 30 segments from The College Tour TV series of first-gen students currently in college to share a relatable first-gen perceptive.

When finished with the class, students will receive their answers and a certificate of completion. The students can also add their counselor's email so the answers can be shared with you as well.

There is NO cost for the class.

The class should take around 45 minutes to complete.

Please also check out www.thecollegetour.com. It is a great resource for first-gen students. On the website, you will find:

As your students look ahead to the upcoming year, our College Planning Guide is a great starting place to approach the college search and application process. It offers application tip videos, examples of successful essays with feedback from our admissions committee on why they worked, and opportunities to connect with current Hopkins students.

We also understand the path to college looks different for every student. For students who identify as first-generation students and students with DACA or undocumented status, we encourage them to visit our resource pages if they’re interested in specific guidance.

St. Olaf's College Search 101

To provide insight and support from our side of the desk, we created a College Search 101 YouTube series this spring! This series of informative videos stars our own Senior Assistant Dean of Admissions Shannon Cron and Assistant Dean of Admissions Jordan Castillo. They are fun, insightful, and cast a broad look at the college search and application process — and they're not St. Olaf-specific
