1. Car Seat Safety (May 5 & May 7)

LATCH makes installing a car seat very simple. The tether strap in forward-facing seats is often overlooked or misunderstood by parents. The tether strap prevents a forward-facing car seat from flipping forward in a crash or a hard stop. Look in your owner’s manual to find where the anchors are in your car. Start off by carefully reading your vehicle owner’s manual together with a car seat instruction manual to determine how to install your child’s car seat. You’ll need to know how you’re going to secure the seat in your car. You’ll either use the latch system or the seat belts. 

2.Childhood Immunizations (May 12 & May 14)

Our bodies were designed with some natural defense mechanisms to protect us. Sometimes a pathogen or bacteria or virus that can cause disease, gets through those barriers. Our immune system kicks into gear to help us fight off the illness. If our body has seen this pathogen before, we already have antibodies that recognize and attack it. If not, our immune system produces new antibodies. This process takes time and in the meantime, we probably get sick. 

3. Preventing Child Sex Abuse  (May 19 & May 21)

Talking about a subject that causes fear in a parent’s heart is not easy. For years, silence has been the rule when dealing with the matter of child molestation. This subject may be particularly hard for you because you may have been a victim yourself. Statistically one in four girls and one in thirteen boys in the U.S. are molested before they reach eighteen.1 But if you have been a victim, it is important for you to begin talking about it. Why? Because silence only aids the abuser in covering up the crime. Have conversations with children early – i.e., labeling their body parts with correct terms and teaching bodily autonomy (i.e., right to say no to unwanted touching or hugs). 

4. SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (May 26 & May 28)

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, is how the medical community labels unexplained, thoroughly investigated deaths of infants less than twelve months old. Sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) is a term used to describe the sudden and unexpected death of a baby less than 1 year old in which the cause was not obvious before investigation. These deaths often happen during sleep or in the baby’s sleep area.

La correa de sujeción evita que un asiento para el automóvil que mira hacia adelante se dé vuelta hacia adelante en un choque o una parada brusca. Busque en su manual del propietario para encontrar dónde están los anclajes en su automóvil. Comience por leer detenidamente el manual del propietario de su vehículo junto con un manual de instrucciones del asiento para el automóvil para determinar cómo instalar el asiento para el automóvil de su hijo. Necesitará saber cómo va a asegurar el asiento en su automóvil. Usted utilizará ya sea el sistema Latch o los cinturones de seguridad. 

2. Vacunas para Ninos  (May 12 & May 14)

Puede haber leído o escuchado diversa información sobre las inmunizaciones, alguna buena y otra mala. ¡Las opiniones son muy fáciles de encontrar en el Internet, y puede ser confuso saber qué creer! Si bien es verdad que algunas de las enfermedades son extremadamente raras en los Estados Unidos, todavía siguen por allí. Si las inmunizaciones fueran eliminadas, veríamos un regreso de estas enfermedades. La mayoría son altamente contagiosas y pueden ser propagadas antes de que incluso sepamos que hay un problema. 

2. Previniendo el abuso Sexual Infantil (May 19 & May 21)

Hablar sobre un tema que causa temor en el corazón de los padres no es fácil. Durante años, el silencio ha sido la regla cuando se trataba el tema del abuso sexual infantil. Este tema puede ser particularmente difícil para usted porque usted también puede haber sido víctima. Estadísticamente, una de cada cuatro niñas y uno de cada trece niños sufren abusos sexuales antes de cumplir los dieciocho años en los Estados Unidos.1 Pero si usted ha sido víctima, es importante que empiece a hablar de ello. ¿Por qué? Porque el silencio solo ayuda al abusador a encubrir el delito. Ten conversaciones tempranas con hijos, llama las partes de su cuerpo partes con términos correctos y enséñales autonomía corporal (es decir, derecho a decir no a tocamientos o abrazos no deseados). 

4. SMS Sindrome de Muerte Infantil (May 26 & May 28)

El síndrome de muerte súbita del lactante, o SIDS, es la forma en que la comunidad médica califica las muertes inexplicables e investigadas a fondo de los bebés menores de doce meses. Muerte repentina e inesperada de lactantes (SUID) es un término usado para describir la muerte súbita e inesperada de un bebé menor de 1 año en el cual la causa no era evidente antes de la investigación. A menudo, estas muertes ocurren durante el sueño o en el área donde duerme el bebé.
