What is West-MEC?

Per the West-MEC website, Western Maricopa Education Center (West-MEC) is a public school district which provides career training programs for both high school and adult students in Arizona. West-MEC focuses solely on innovative career and technical education programs that prepare students to enter the workforce and pursue continuing education.

Every student who completes a program has the opportunity to test for licensure or certification.

WHO can apply to take West-MEC Courses: 

Typically, you apply either your Sophomore or Junior year for entrance into a West-MEC program.  Applications are usually due at the end of 1st semester and acceptance decisions are made in January/February. Please click HERE to see program specifics. 

***Please Note: If you are applying for a program that is already offered at Cortez, it is recommended that you take the classes at Cortez High School.

Can a CHS student take any of the West-MEC courses offered? 

Due to scheduling constraints or the location of a program, some West-MEC offerings may not be possible for you.  Please schedule an appointment with your counselor to discuss your specifics.  Click HERE to set up an appointment with your counselor.
