How does someone get it?

Huntington's is in inherited disease, meaning that you can only get it if one of your parents carries the gene for it. Unfortunately, most people don't realize they have this disease however, because symptoms don't occur until ages 30-40. By then the person has most likely had children and passed the gene on to a new generation. The gene is an autosomal dominant disorder. This means that you only need one copy of the gene to get the disease. This gives children born to people with Huntington's Disease a 50/50 chance of actually inheriting the gene.
