You will vote on two separate questions: 5 teachers in total
Art & Music: Why they Matter
Art and Music are critical components to a child's overall academic success. It helps them be more engaged in school and reduce stress, develop social-emotional and interpersonal skills, handle constructive criticism, bolster academic achievement, and improve focus. Building these skills is more important than ever after the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students with Art & Music programs score higher on statewide tests in math, science and citizenship than students from control schools
At this time there are NO Music, Band, Chorus or Art classes occurring in GTSD at either school. These will be reinstated for the 2023-24 school year IF the referendum passes.
3 Basic Skills Teachers (BSI): Why they Matter
Basic Skills Instructors support the academic needs of ALL students to help every child be more successful in their classroom.
BSI, allows general educators to better meet the needs of enriched academic students in classroom settings. This supports ALL students.
They provide small group instruction or a push in model of teaching, to students experiencing any difficulty in Language Arts and/or Math, which allows classroom teachers to focus more time on enrichment with other students. Standardized test scores across the country, and in our district, prove MANY children are struggling, even those who have excelled in the past. BSI teachers today, are critical components to get all children back on track and confidant in their fundamental skills.
