Google maps is a mapping engine that runs many different apps with the G-Suite environment. The most common that you would have heard of is Google Maps. But did you know that you can use Google Maps as a Time Machine? Did you also know that you can create your own maps and share them with others? Did you know you can use Google Maps to create tours? Did you also know that you can view museums and Art exhibitions all around the world and look at art in the most extreme detail?
Google Maps also offers some wonderful features on your Mobile Device. Why not try out Google Street view with your students and a set of VR Google goggles? Send your students to places that they have never seen and never will. You could even go to Google Expeditions and turn your classroom into a virtual world.
Google Maps is a must have resource for the classroom. It gives students the opportunity to explore the world. Create projects that require students to find the best routes to different destinations. Analyse the reasons why one route would be better than another. Google Maps offers photos of places all around the world that have been crowd sourced and will allow students to upload their own photos of locations around the world.
Google Streetview offers a teaching resources that allows students to explore cities of the world. Create a virtual treasure hunt in different cities. Use Streetview to get students to find their way home by using landmarks. Go back in time and view locations from the past. How do they differ from how they look now? Streetview opens up a world of opportunities for the classroom.
Google Tour Builder gives students the opportunity to build tours using the Google Maps Engine. They can add photos and videos to form a presentation that can be shared with friends and family. Tour builder is a fantastic classroom resource.
The Google Arts and Culture is a tool that allows students to explore Art around the world from museums, art galleries and famous collections. Students can zoom in extremely close into gigapixel images that have been photographed with super high definition cameras. These give a clarity that you could not achieve at the physical gallery.
