Be Safe. Be Kind. Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be AWESOME!
Our 6th Grade STEM program empowers students to become innovators, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers, preparing them for success in a rapidly changing world. We emphasize hands-on learning, collaboration, and real-world applications as students explore advanced STEM concepts and delve into exciting new technologies.
Here's a glimpse into the engaging topics we'll be exploring:
MinecraftEdu: Stages of Man Simulation: Students will embark on a fascinating journey through human history using MinecraftEdu. They will simulate the stages of human evolution, from Australopithecus to early humans, recreating survival conditions and facing the challenges of adapting to their environment. This project blends history, science, and technology, fostering an understanding of human development and adaptation. (Explore Minecraft Education at https://education.minecraft.net/.)
Digital Citizenship: Building upon previous years, we will explore advanced digital citizenship topics, including online reputation management, cyber ethics, digital law, and the impact of social media on society.
Engineering and STEM-Based Career Connection Lessons: Students will explore various engineering disciplines and other STEM-related careers. We will investigate the skills and education required for these professions, connecting classroom learning to real-world career paths and inspiring students to consider future STEM careers.Â
Computer Programming: Students will focus on the development process, learning to plan, design, code, test, and debug their own programs.
Python Coding: Students will deepen their understanding of Python, a powerful and versatile programming language, learning to write more complex programs and potentially exploring data structures and algorithms.
Development Focus: Students will learn about the software development lifecycle and apply these principles as they work on individual and group programming projects.
Space Flight with Kerbal Space Program: Students will design, build, and launch rockets in Kerbal Space Program, a realistic space exploration game. This project allows them to apply their knowledge of physics, engineering, and mathematics to the challenges of space travel. (Learn more about Kerbal Space Program at https://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com/.)
Trackmania: This racing game allows students to design and build their own tracks, applying principles of physics and engineering to create challenging and exciting courses. This project fosters creativity, problem-solving, and an understanding of motion and forces.
