Be Safe. Be Kind. Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be AWESOME!
Our 4th Grade STEM program empowers students to become innovative thinkers and problem-solvers, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven world. We focus on hands-on learning, collaboration, and critical thinking, challenging students to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios and explore advanced STEM concepts.
Here's a glimpse into the exciting topics we'll be exploring:
Disney Coaster: Students will combine engineering principles with creativity as they design and build their own roller coasters. This project reinforces their understanding of physics, forces, and design, while also encouraging imaginative thinking.
Sphero Robotics: Students will refine their coding skills with Sphero robots, learning to program more complex movements, sensor interactions, and potentially even exploring more advanced coding concepts related to robotics. (Discover Sphero at Sphero.com.)
Ozobots: Students will delve deeper into coding with Ozobots, using both color-based programming and block coding to control the robots' movements and interactions. This provides a bridge to more complex coding languages. (Discover Ozobot at Ozobot.com.)
Computer Programming: This year, students will explore multiple facets of computer programming:
Python: Students will be introduced to Python, a widely used text-based programming language, building a foundation for future coding endeavors.
Block Coding: We will continue to utilize block-based coding to reinforce programming concepts and provide a visual and intuitive way to learn.
MS Logo: Students will explore the classic MS Logo programming language, which introduces fundamental programming concepts through turtle graphics.
Science of Flight: Students will explore the principles of aerodynamics and the science behind flight. They may conduct experiments with paper airplanes, build gliders, or investigate the forces that allow airplanes to fly.Â
Minecraft Education Lessons: Minecraft Education provides a collaborative learning environment where students can explore STEM concepts, work on projects, and develop problem-solving skills. (Explore Minecraft Education at https://education.minecraft.net/.)
Science of Flight: Students will delve deeper into the science of flight, exploring aerodynamics, lift, drag, thrust, and weight. They may conduct experiments, design and test different types of aircraft, and investigate the principles of flight.
3D Printing with Tinkercad: Students will continue to refine their 3D design skills using Tinkercad, creating more complex and functional designs. They may also explore the applications of 3D printing in various fields, such as engineering, medicine, and art. (Explore Tinkercad at Tinkercad.com.)
Rigamajig: Students will use Rigamajig to tackle more complex engineering challenges, designing and building structures that require creative problem-solving and collaboration. (Learn more about Rigamajig at Rigamajig.com.)
Photoshop and Graphic Design Basics: Students will be introduced to the basics of graphic design using Photoshop, learning about image editing, layout, and design principles. This project will encourage creativity and visual communication skills.
Little Bits Electrical Engineering: Students will continue to explore electrical engineering concepts with Little Bits, designing and building more complex circuits and interactive devices. (Explore Little Bits at LittleBits.com.)
Digital Citizenship Lessons: We will continue to reinforce digital citizenship skills, focusing on responsible online behavior, privacy, and the impact of technology on society.
