Presentation Summary: All students need advocates to navigate the world of higher education. Some students, however, come in less-equipped for the challenges: First Gen, Non-native speakers, and returning Adult Learners, among others. The workshop will focus on what it takes to become a genuine advocate through effective advising and how to partner with faculty and administrators to support our students through Pathways.

Workshop Title: Online Advising: Path to Complete Master Academic Plan

Presentation Summary: Does your school offer online programs? Are you an advisor? Learn about the online advising model used at Blackhawk Technical College and adapt the online advising model to fit the needs of your students. The goal of this model was to create flexible advising that is responsive to the needs of online Business Management students at Blackhawk Technical College.

Workshop Title: Overcoming Resistance to Change: Strategies for Successfully Implementing New Advising Procedures

Presentation Summary: Change is inevitable and often difficult. When leadership changes or new technology emerges, academic advising leaders are often charged with adopting a new innovation. This session will build a bridge between theory, research, and action, helping leaders to increase the likelihood of achieving sustainable and meaningful change, while overcoming the common concerns with change initiatives.

Share ideas and develop a plan to combat fixed mindset in higher education and help students achieve their goals.
