EDPB530 FINISHED ON DEC 10TH. HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!
"The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist."'
Maria Montessori, educator (31 Aug 1870-1952)
As a November baby I learned to drive a car during the winter months... in Winnipeg. Winter in Winnipeg is not the most hospitable "learning to drive in winter" scenario, with icy streets and snowbanks the size of elephants. Losing control of your car was not an "if" you lose control on the ice possibility, but a "when" you lose control certainty. So, I was taught that when I lost control of my car, to not gaze in horror at the huge snowbank I was sliding toward, but to look at the open space on the road... the path I wanted... and allow my subconscious and muscle memory to take me there. The idea was to focus on where I wanted to go and my mind and body would take me there. And it worked (most of the time).
The same thing can be said about teaching. Look to the path you want. Create a "thought video", or a visualization, of the classroom experience you want so that your subconscious can work to create that environment and experience. I have created a starting place for you with this affirmation visualization.
This visualization is not a meditation. It does not move slowly like a meditation might. This exercise moves more quickly than a meditation might, attempting to guide your thoughts... with little time to allow your thoughts to wander.
I would recommend you create your own visualization at some point (audio, paper...), but you can also always use my recorded one if it suites you. Choose between the one with music and the one without.
Music will begin at about one minute.
Calendar and Classes Schedule are are CONSIDERED PRIVATE, as they would reveal where you are on any given day. The calendar and course schedule is linked through the private "CLASSES & OFFICE HOURS" document which is only shared with active students.
EDPB 530-531: Instructional Design: Application of Educational Technology, Parts I
An introduction to pedagogical perspectives for teaching and learning, and integrating technology. Technical skills required for the design and use of custom, technology-enhanced curriculum are experienced, developed and applied. A technology-rich course which models intensive technology integration practice, including gamification principles (Narrative, points, quest-based learning, experience points, badges, rewards,...) and use of up-to-date pedagogical strategies (Social learning, inquiry, project-based learning, ePortfolio,...). Content and strategies may not all be directly related to technology integration; in such cases the learning process will be steeped in technology.
EDPB 530 is offered as an online course. EDPB 531 is offered as a blended experience, with both online and face-to-face classes.
How can participants build capacity in the use and understanding of Education Technology?
How can participants build confidence in their use of Technology for Education?
How can participants develop expertise and confidence as teachers?
Through course activities and research it is expected that students will:
Develop, through intensive hands-on experience and reflection, an enhanced ability to "figure out" technology (BCTC Standards: 7);
Develop a sound understanding of technology use and integration in educational practice (BCTC Standards: 2, 3, 5, 7);
Apply strategies and theories derived from course content, discussions, research, workshops, and social media (BCTC Standards: 2, 3, 5, 7, 8);
Build capacity in the use and understanding of education technology by practicing and applying technology skills in guided practice and self-directed settings (BCTC Standards: 5, 7);
Critically examine and design web and technology-based resources, including a website design (BCTC Standards: 2, 5, 7);
Build a professional learning community through story, discussion, debate, presentation, and sharing of ideas and resources (BCTC Standards: 4, 5, 7, 8,9).
“Applicants are advised that the Faculty of Education utilizes a variety of technologies, online services, and tools in providing an array of pedagogical experiences. An up-to-date laptop will be an asset to the student experience.”
