This week was a big one. For many of your little ones, it was their first time venturing away from their families to go to school. Everyone was so brave and seemed to have a good time. I know this time is also difficult for the parents and guardians as well! As a parent, I am walking this journey with you, only in a slightly different format: I sent my baby girl off to college this fall. We have been dealing with a lot of firsts in my house, from living in dorms to being away from home. So, needless to say, it has been a big and emotional parenting journey for me this fall as well! In the following picture you can see my baby girl, all grown up and heading to college, it happened so fast!
We spent a lot of time this week learning the routines of school, as well as getting used to being in a new environment. We went to the gym, we played outside, we got messy inside, and we checked out so many cool toys!
We started our year off with my favourite cat, Pete! We have been reading "Pete the Cat: I Love my White Shoes" all week. Reading the same story again and again promotes language development as children learn the story and gain the confidence needed to participate in reading aloud. We also used story pieces to support engagement and encourage the children to follow along with the story as the book is being read aloud.
On Thursday, the students had the opportunity to try painting with the different things Pete steps in in his book: strawberries, blueberries, and mud (chocolate pudding)! This messy activity not only tasted delicious and engaged our senses, but it also developed fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
The Pictures Are Coming, Just Not Yet!
We have been taking oodles of cute pictures here in EIPK, however, we cannot post any pictures of students on the blog until the Student Verification forms have been completed and processed by central office. So, you will have to wait a few weeks to see the pictures, but I assure you, they will be worth the wait!
Robina Baker School will be having a Terry Fox Walk on Wednesday, September 25th. The Early Intervention Pre-Kindergarten students will participate by first learning a little bit about Terry Fox, and then engaging in a little run around the school yard (we will be staying on school property, within the fenced school yard). If you would like to support the Terry Fox Foundation, our school is collecting "Toonies for Terry." You are welcome to send a toonie to school this day if you are interested.
Next week we will be following our regular programming hours. Important upcoming dates:
September 20th - PD Day (No School)
September 25th - Terry Fox Walk (send a toonie to support the Terry Fox Foundation if you wish)
September 26/27th - Orange Shirt Day
We will have orange shirt day two times so our four year olds can have a chance to participate! EIPK will wear orange on BOTH Thursday, September 26th, and Friday, September 27th
September 30th - National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (No School)
