Last week I noticed some students were looking for dinosaur bones in the sand, this was my cue to put together a dinosaur week for EIPK! We had a lot of prehistoric fun getting messy and being paleontologists here at school.
We got messy painting dinosaurs and also using dinosaurs as a paintbrush this week. We also had fun washing the dinosaurs off afterwards! This simple activity was a fun sensory experience and a great way to strengthen our pincer grasp and fine-motor skills.
On Tuesday and Thursday we hid dinosaur bones in the sand. The students were very eager to put on their paleontologist hats and dig for them! It was just as fun to re-bury them so we could keep finding them again and again.
Our four-year-olds enjoyed experimenting with baking soda and vinegar to pour "hot lava" onto their mini dinosaur lands on Tuesday. This activity was very engaging, the students stayed and played for long periods of time before the novelty wore off.
We set up a dinosaur obstacle course for our students in the gym this past week. We strengthened our gross motor skills as we crawled, climbed, jumped, and balanced our way through the dinosaur land!
Learning About Each Other's Cultures
We took a few minutes this week to learn about Navrati, a celebration from India that is sometimes referred to as the "Festival of Nine Nights of Dancing." We watched a short video of some people dancing at a Navrati celebration, and many of our students enjoyed dancing along!
We also read "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey" on Thursday and chatted a bit about Thanksgiving.
If you are celebrating Navrati or Thanksgiving this weekend, we wish you a wonderful time with your friends and family!
